SAN FERNANDO VALLEY ARTS & CULTURAL CENTER The San Fernando Valley Arts & Cultural Center (SFVACC) came about when need for a more unified and powerful umbrella organization for the Valley arts organizations became apparent. The SFVACC merges a number of these well-established, Valley based arts organizations and creates a collaboration that will bring together over 1,000 artists for the purpose of consolidating their respective resources, talent, membership and fundamental knowledge of exhibiting and performing arts in the San Fernando Valley. With the ever changing economy and closures of many well known Valley exhibition venues, the realization of a proper San Fernando Valley arts and cultural center began to emerge. Art organizations and their artist members find it more and more difficult to secure gallery, workshop and performance space in the Valley. A collective voice from these organizations shares the desire to have a real center to call their own. Many of the organizations had already worked together for years with the Valley Institute of Visual Art (VIVA) before this highly respected non‐profit was closed in December 2010 because of a city zoning issue. For over 12 years, VIVA served as an artistic hub in the Valley and offered exhibitions, workshops, a gift shop and poetry readings to the local community. VIVA was also used for neighborhood council meetings, charity events and lectures. A ‘call to unify’ brought together board members and representatives from the organizations to share their concerns and dreams of a more stable and viable union where ideas for a permanent arts & cultural center could be shared. It is quite evident that the Valley needs its own center to properly showcase the talented artists who pride themselves in being the creative force and future of arts for the San Fernando Valley. The Center is also available for individual artist exhibits and cultural exhibits. We have completed the construction of our 8' x 16 'stage, and have purchased professional theater lighting and a new PA system for live performances.
