October Jazz Muse Concert Series presents Two-Time Grammy Winner, Saxophonist Ernie Watts

Saxophonist Ernie Watts, one of the most versatile and prolific saxophone players in music, joins vocalist Janis Mann at the San Fernando Valley Arts & Cultural Center in Tarzana on Saturday, October 20.  Watt’s lyrical and majestic style of playing is sure to inspire, whether he is performing his own compositions or collaborating with Ms. Mann.  The stellar accompanying trio consists of Grammy-winner Bill Cunliffe on piano, Bruce Lett on bass, and Roy McCurdy on drums.

Watts has long been one of the most sought-after musicians for jazz performance and recording session work.  In his fifty year career he has been part of the Buddy Rich, Doc Severinsen, Pat Matheny and Charlie Haden bands.  He has also toured with the Rolling Stones and appeared on recordings with Kurt Elling, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin and Steely Dan as well as many movie and TV soundtracks.

Watts brilliance as a jazz composer and saxophonist is evident on his many recordings available on Flying Dolphin Records. He eloquently describes his ongoing musical journey: "I see music as the common bond having potential to bring all people together in peace and harmony. All things in the physical world have vibration; the music I choose to play is the energy vibration that touches a common bond in people. I believe that music is God singing through us, an energy to be used for good."

Doors open at 7:00 pm so you can socialize and enjoy the new California Art League exhibit, “Fantasy.”

The show will start at 8:00 pm. Tickets are $25 at the door and $15 for students.

Appetizers, wine and beer will be served.  Get here early for the best seats.

The Center is closed due to COVID-19
